We are starting in the coming months a project to raise awareness on the rainforest protection among indigenous people in the Lekoumou region and to provide indigenous people alternatives activities to reduce their dependence to bush meat. The project will benefit to 30 families of indigenous people living in the area of Sibiti, in the Lekoumou region.

We will organize with the indigenous people in the Sibiti area in five camps awareness sessions on environment protection, especially the forest in local languages. The issues of promotion of land rights for the indigenous people will also be raised. We will have a reflection on the actions to plan for environment protection, especially the forests.

While we will advocate for land access for indigenous people, we will encourage them to start alternative income generating activities. So that they could participate in the protection of animals of the forest rather than relying on hunting only. Indigenous people live under the poverty line and of forest products. They will do agriculture work and local making of soaps to be sold.

To be continued.
