Indigenous Children refuse to go to school because of hostility of their bantous peers

A new survey of UNICEF in Cong Brazzaville on the access of indigenous people to basic social services showed that the main reasons that prevent indigenous children to go to schools are:

• Lack of support
• Refusal of their parents
• Own Refusal
• Hostility of the bantou children
• Body punishment

The reasons for those who have never been to school are :
• Refusal of their parents
• Own Refusal
• No school in the area
• Seasonal nomadism
• Hostility of the bantou children.

The indigenous children are the most victims 40% compared to 29% for boys don’t go to schools.


A call is launched to Government, civil society organisations, international organisations and private sector to support education for indigenous girls and boys in Congo.
